Video to DVD Transfers and Conversions
Q: Can you transfer or copy Hi-8 or Digital 8 cassettes?
A: Yes, we are able to work with all popular consumer video formats, existing and obsolete.
Q: I have a tape from Europe and I found out that it does not play on American VHS players. Can you convert it?
A: Yes. We can also convert U.S. standard NTSC tapes to any of the foreign formats (PAL, SECAM).
Q: Can you convert DVD’s, Mini-DV, or Hi-8 tapes that are recorded in an international format?
A: We can convert DVD's, Mini-DV, Video 8, and Hi-8 in PAL format.
Q: I have a tape that I bought and would like to make copies. Will you do that?
A: Not if the tape is copyrighted. If there are copyright markings on the labels of the tape or on the video, we will not make copies/conversions/transfers.
Q: Is there such a thing as a “looping tape?”
A: No. However, videos may be duplicated over and over on the same tape to give the effect of a looping tape.
Q: How much video can be transferred to a DVD?
A: DVD’s may be recorded in 1, 2, 4, & 6-hour lengths. The quality is reduced in the longer lengths just like VHS tapes recorded in SLP or EP modes. We do not recommend going beyond two hours on DVD if you want to preserve the picture quality of the original video or film.
Q: If I transfer my video to DVD, does it make the video better?
A: No. However, it should look identical to the source video as long as the original video does not exceed approximately two hours. There is no loss in picture quality due to generation as in analog video recordings (e.g., VHS to VHS).
Q: I want to transfer my camcorder tapes to DVD. Can I add chapter marks?
A: Yes. For video to DVD transfers, there is a chapter point placed every five minutes. We also specialize in DVD authoring services in which we can make customized menus, place chapter marks at specific points that you chose, and more; call us for more information, (510) 796-2200.
Q: If I transfer my video to DVD, will it play on my DVD player?
A: We use professional-grade DVD-R media to transfer your video to DVD. There are DVD players that do not read this media, particularly the first and second generation players. Newer DVD players should not have any trouble playing this media.
Q: I would like to do more than transfer my videos to DVD. I would like to have Menu’s, sub-menus and special options. Can you do that for me?
A: Yes. We call that DVD authoring and have complete capabilities of editing your video and creating the DVD that you would be proud of.
Home Movie Transfers
Q: I have a box full of old movies and I’m not sure what’s really on them. How can you help me?
A: We suggest transferring the film to video so that you can cherish the memories. After you have viewed the film on video, you could consider video editing services to cut out bad spots, rearrange the sequence of the film or add titles.
Q: I have silent films. Is there anyway to add sound or a narration of the movie?
A: Yes. We can add background music of your choice to all of the silent films at a nominal charge. We also have the ability to add voice narration to your video. This can either be done by incorporating an audio recording that you have made or by visiting our studio to record your narration as the video is playing. Please contact us for pricing information.
Video Tape Repair
Q: I have a tape that has been smashed while it was in a child’s book bag. Can it be saved?
A: Many times it can. The videotape cover is easily damaged, however the videotape inside is fairly well protected. The tape may be removed from the casing and placed into a new casing so that it is just like new.
Q: Help! I accidentally recorded over my wedding video! Can you bring it back?
A: Sorry, unlike in a computer hard drive, the information on a videotape cannot be recovered once it has been recorded over.
Q: I have videotape that was “eaten” by my VHS player. Can it be repaired?
A: Yes. The bad portions of the tape will be cut out and the tape spliced together with a special adhesive tape.
